ACER CAMPESTRE – MAPLE, HEDGE
This is a tough tree used for planting in urban landscapes. The tree tolerates dry, alkaline soil. It is well-suited for and looks great during drought. The plant can be sheared into a hedge but requires regular pruning to keep it in check. Branches are arranged closely on the trunk and some pruning is usually desirable to create a well-formed tree. Fall color is exceptionally bright yellow. Trees are tolerant of urban conditions and have performed well as street trees.
The wood is considered diffuse porous which means that there is little difference in size between the spring wood pores and the summer wood pores. Plant pollen can cause significant allergy problems for some people.
