PRUNUS SPP. – CHERRY/PLUM SPP.

Trees in the Prunus genus a best known for their beautiful and fragrant white, pink, and rose colored spring flowers. Many Prunus spp. are native to Asia but have since naturalized to the northeastern United States. They can vary in sizes from the 10-60 feet tall at maturity. The trees fruit emerges in the late spring or early summer and can be a good food source for wildlife.

Prunus spp. are susceptible to a large number of insect and disease problems, including black knot, leaf spot, powdery mildew, leaf blight, and tent caterpillars. To manage these issues, plant trees in ideal growing environments such as medium to well-drained sandy loam soil in full sun.
