AMELANCHIER SPP. – SERVICEBERRY, SPP.

With a native habitat of wet bogs and swamps, Serviceberry should be grown in full sun or light shade on moist, well-drained, acid soil. Plants will rarely require fertilizing. Plants suffer on poor compacted soils when the root zone is restricted by urban structures such a walks and streets. Trees perform best with plenty of open soil space for root expansion. Trees cast light shade under the canopy making it easier to grow turf under the tree than under other trees with a denser canopy. Plants serve as hosts for butterfly larvae. Plants flower on previous seasons wood.
