ULMUS X SPP. – ELM HYBRID
Elm hybrids are a cross between various species of American, Asian and European elms. Designed to be highly resistant to Dutch elm disease, elm hybrids are medium to large trees that can grow to a height of 60 feet tall at maturity. The leaves are oval, with doubly serrated toothed margins. The flowers and fruit emerge in the spring and are rather inconspicuous.
Elm hybrids grow best in well drained soils with full sun. In addition to being resistant to Dutch elm disease, elm hybrids are also more of urban stresses, such as pollution, and have a fast growth rate. Because of this, elm hybrids are ideal for planting in streetscapes or urban environments.
